Overview
Echoes of Edda is a turn-based RPG, set in a fairy tale world, where words are magic spells. Traverse through the lively yet treacherous world and find your way back home with your new friend.
Gameplay
Borrowing some features of the German language, the main gameplay consist of playing through roguelike Chapters, in which the player will battle enemies using the correct types of spells in a turn-based fashion. The most prominent of these features is that all targets have weaknesses that are 1 of the 3 German articles 'der', 'die', 'das', and using attack spells with the corresponding articles will deal massive damage.
Many spells can aid you in progressing through the chapters, such as support spells and Pluralfication (AoE attack).
Chapters
In between battles, the player will have to strategize about which path to take on the Map, as to gather more powerful gems and not exhaust themselves. Each of the 24 chapters has its own challenges, and completing chapter unlocks new spells, abilities and enemies.
Builds
Bringing the correct spells, relics and activating the right skill tree abilities might just get you through that troublesome boss fight.
Characters
Ling
The college student was drawn into a parallel world after reading a mysterious book bounded in red. In this foreign realm, full of mythical and dangerous creatures, the girl set out on a journey to find her way home.

Going back from the spellbook menu to the main menu doesn’t turn off the fire and tavern ambiance noise. Is it supposed to be that way?
Thanks for the bug report! That is unintended indeed.
Fun game and really interesting concept and the alpha is surprisingly long and packed with content.
Here's some feedback from my first playthrough:
+ I find it a bit annoying to have to hold down a spell/attack in combat to even see what it does, and in the spell selection having to manually go through and click on the spells then reading everything in plain text is a bit tedious when you give them about 50 spells at once.
- You can add a hover system where you can hover over the spell/attack to see what it does and color code spells like fire would be orange, poison would be green and have the percentage number be highlighted in bold or another color, basically making it easy to read at a glance without having to read the entire thing.
+ its a little tedious to click on a spell/attack and then having to click on your character or their character twice, it doesn't sound like much but it gets a bit annoying after 2 chapters.
- Maybe add a system to drag and hold the spell then drop it on an enemy to instantly use it.
Thank you so much for playing our demo! I've gathered so much feedback and insight from your comment!
+ Color coding is a great idea, as well as making it clear that Nou spells from a chapter has the exact same description, so players don't have to read all of them. Hovering is good, too, and I think I'll add it as an option, instead of clicking and holding.
+ I think I'll make it so you'll only need 2 taps, one for the spell, and one for the target, instead of 3 taps in total. That way, there's keyboard only/controller only support
Again, I appreciate it so much! Be sure to follow me on itch.io and on my Youtube channel for more updates to come!
