Rocky launch for Echoes of Edda


Hello, my fellow gamers!

Thank you so much for your continued support for Echoes of Edda, our latest game project. If you haven't already, be sure to play our demo, available in English and Vietnamese, and available on Windows, Linux and the latest web browser.

My experience

Over the past 2 days, I've had to constantly reupload new versions of the game (On Thursday, it was at Alpha 1.0. Now, it's in a semi-complete state at Alpha 1.2). What I've learned is that you should thoroughly test your game with your team, or by yourself, to really eliminate any major bugs it may have. For example, I made the mistake of being impatient before making version Alpha 1.0 public, not even realizing that the saving mechanic of the game was totally broken, meaning you literally couldn't play.

On other thing I'd highlight is that it is extremely important to have this phase of playtesting because, as the developer, you can never know how a player might interact with a certain game mechanic, or how challenging it might be for them. If possible, observe a player in real time, and restrain from giving them any tips, and you will quickly see just how interesting their reaction can be. Thanks to many people coming in to test our game, it is mostly bug-free and balanced for now. The pacing is still off, and I could have done better with the tutorial, but all in all, I'd say it is a very successful launch.
